– Here I was trying to explore the parts of me, my sinful nature, that have to continually die in order for the fruits of the spirit to grow. The putting to death of these things began the day I decided to make Jesus Lord, and they are things I must put to death every day. This idea is captured in the writing on the tombstone: “Here lies the old. in order to be made new.”
John 12:25 (the darkened figure with all the color pouring out)
– In order for Christ’s power to fully work and grow, I must completely deny myself. Black myself out, and let everything else shine.
John 12:26 (the one where I am following Jesus)
– I believe Jesus has taken the concept of serving to another level. Many of us understand what it takes to serve someone: make them dinner, clean their house, babysit their kids for free, etc. Jesus is saying that in order to truly serve Him it’s not just with actions but a way of life. Following him so closely that you fall into step with him. That his dust is kicked up and covers your feet. As the greek says, “to be in the same way”. Not out of obligation or duty, but out of a longing and a desire to follow Jesus, to be His disciple.
